A Note About the Visitor Counter

Just a brief note on how the Visitor Counter on my blog works…

First of all, the counter is located at the bottom of the left column and shows three different counts: Today, This Week, and This Month. The software is a little odd in how it counts…

Today is the count of unique visitors in the last 24 hours.

This Week is the count of unique visitors in the last 7 days.

This Month is the count of unique visitors in the last 30 days.

All times float in references to real time.

Great YouTube Shows from Rob Dyke

OK, I hang out on YouTube a good deal, but I only rarely find things that excite me. This is mostly because I tend to watch mostly music videos and documentaries. I will, to be honest, sometimes watch news bloopers, but even that is rare.

The other day, I was watching a few documentaries on air crash investigations, and at the end when YouTube shows a list of suggested videos to watch next, there was something there about “The Horrors of Insane Asylums” by a guy named Rob Dyke. I couldn’t resist…

The very first thing to catch my attention was Rob himself. OK, this is a VERY female thing to say, but this guy is freaking hot! Piercing eyes, a well-trimmed beard, dark complexion…I need to stop there. I just wish I could hear his voice to see if that matched the old world baron image I get from him.

His presence on camera is amazing. He’s both engaging and entertaining, and despite me having the attention span of a gerbil, he can keep me focused.

But the most amazing part? His web shows are informative without being juvenile. I actually learned something!

I’ve spent the past couple of days tracking down and watching all the “Rob-Mob” videos I can find, some several times.

Let me give you a few links if you’d like to learn more about Rob Dyke…

I hope you enjoy Rob as much as I have!

Hmmm…maybe that didn’t sound so good…

Pick A Color…

Here’s something that many of you might have some fun with…

I’m terrible at colors. Really, I am. I know I’m deaf, but maybe I have crazy color-blindness to boot.

Oh, I can see the various colors and I always pass the tests for color-blindness, but I can’t put colors together that look good. I never have been able to do that.

With clothing, it’s easy for me…I stick to a lot of black and white. Long story, so I’ll avoid more on that one for now.

Anyway, I found a kind of neat website at:

In short, you can use your mouse to slide around and get different color schemes that, at least in theory, are pleasing. What do I know about that? See above.

So, here’s the deal…

I would love for you folks to go to the above website and pick a color scheme for my website. A few conditions, though…

1. Please stick to the “Mono” option in the upper left-hand area. This will make my life easier when trying to implement your suggested scheme.

2. Next, on the right-hand side (pretty much straight across from the “Mono” option) you will see a funny looking, longish number in the form of a link. This is the “Scheme ID” number. If you click on that link, you will go to a page where that color scheme is the “default” setting of the slider. Follow the link.

3. Lastly, just above the link in #2 above, you will see the four main colors of the scheme. Below the link are the five suggested colors. It’s the five colors I’m interested in. If you have suggestions for where to use each of the fives colors you select, I would like to hear those, too.

Just post a reply to this message with the URL to the page from #2 above along with any suggestions in #3.

I’ll then play with the ideas and see what we come up with!

I know there must be someone out there who doesn’t suffer from my particular brand of color-blindness!

And The Winners Are…

I am pleased to announce the winners of my Make Melodee’s Banner contest.

But first, I want to thank the panel of judges: Gracie C. McKeever, Morgan Ashbury, Jamie Heppner, and Lt. Col. Brian Buck for their work. I understand that there were more than a few rounds of voting before they settled on the winners!

Secondly, thanks to all who entered. There were some wonderful banners submitted, and I appreciate all of the work everyone put in.

And now, the winners are:

First Place ($50 in StrandBucks) goes to Donna Collier.

Second Place ($25 in StrandBucks) goes to Brenda Woody.

Third Place ($20 in StrandBucks) goes to Jocelyn Modo.

Congratulations to all of the winners!

It will be a few days before the new banners begin to appear on the site. I’m told that there are details the web team has to address. What do I know about that?

Judges for Make Melodee’s Banner Contest

I am pleased to announce the panel of judges for my Make Melodee’s Banner contest.

Gracie C. McKeever – Erotica romance author. Gracie has more than two dozen novels and short stories to her credit in a wide range of subgenres, and they are all must reads for anyone looking to spice up their reading list. You can learn more about Gracie and her books at her website at and at her page at BookStrand located at

Morgan Ashbury – Erotica romance author. Morgan has more than twenty books available in a number of subgenres, and continues to turn out top-shelf work story after story. If you like it hot, you’ll love Morgan! Find out more about Morgan and her books at her homepage and her page at BookStrand

Lieutenant Colonel Brian Buck, USAF – Brian is the only non-author on the panel, but he is uniquely qualified to judge the contest. Brian is a veteran of the Iraqi war, has worked with the Joint Command for MIA/POW, and is currently commanding an ROTC program at Louisiana State University. And he has been a fan of my books and a close friend for many years.

Jamie Heppner – Jamie is an author of many genres of fiction who is currently waiting for his big break. Like all authors, he is in a learning process…I’m just not sure that he knows what he’s getting himself into just yet. You can read more about Jamie and his works at his blog and FaceBook page

A big thank you to all of the judges!

Grand Opening & a Contest!

OK, here we go…

I guess this is the official opening of my new, redesigned website.

Yes, I still dislike the banners above, so the very first order of business is to have a contest for visitors to design a banner for my site.

Yeah, I’m giving away some coin in the form of StrandBucks.

What the hell is a StrandBuck, you ask? Well, read on…

A StrandBuck is a credit to buy things at BookStrand…books, to be specific. You use StrandBucks just like real bucks. One StrandBuck is worth $1.00 on your purchase. And you can buy any book you like on the BookStrand site. Easy as pie.

For all the details, see the Contests – Current page over there on the left-hand side of this page.

Oh, one thing…the contest does not start until January 9, 2012. Don’t go sending in your entries too soon!

Mostly Just Testing…sort of…

OK, looks like I have another learning curve to deal with. Yeah, just exactly what I needed in my life right now.

I think I kind of like this set up, though. Blog and website all rolled into one.

I know it makes it easier for the web folks to maintain and share content across a bunch of sites. Well, I should say I know they tell me it does.

What do I know about that?

Absolutely jack-squat, that’s what.

Tell me what you think out there. Yeah, I know, many of you are kind of shy. For all I know, all of you are kind of shy. If you’re not comfortable posting a reply here, then drop me an E-Mail. I think there’s a link or something over to the right to do that.

Now, I have to admit that I played with the colors a little, and I am in a pink sort of mood. Pink and purple, actually. Don’t ask me why I am, but I am. Deal with it. I doubt it will stay this way very long.

And those banners up there sort of, well, suck. Need to come up with something else. There are some technical issues–so I’m told–but we’ll deal with that. I like that the banner changes, but what they change to and from right now is pretty bad.

I guess I better shut up for now.

Oh, and this really IS Melodee posting this, and I have no fucking idea what I’m doing.

Keep Loving!
